The Galapagos Islands, Day 5

In the morning we visit Bartolome Island, where we hike up 395 steps on a boardwalk to the summit of Pinnacle Rock. We are rewarded with spectacular views of famous Pinnacle Rock and the beach, where the crystal blue waters of the bay cradle our yacht.

We return later to snorkel around Pinnacle Rock where we see white tip reef sharks among many beautiful tropical fish. Yes, that’s Sandi under all that kit.

In the afternoon we head to Bachas Beach on the island of Santa Cruz in search of flamingos (which sadly for us have migrated).

The name of the beach refers to the remains of a landing craft left here at the end of WWII.

A little yellow Warbler checks us out.

Ashore marine iguanas mingle other wading birds in another of the many super saline lagoons found in the Galapagos.

A Blue-Footed Booby searches for some dinner.

So do the ducks.

The romantic setting works it’s magic.

Time to head back to the boat—it’s bedtime for the birds and happy hour for us.
